Haiti: FEBS Boutik

Since 2008, Housing Works has collaborated with the St.-Marc-based Fondation Esther Boucicault-Stanislas (FEBS) on a social enterprise pilot project, the FEBS Boutik. Located at 24, Rue Bonnet near a popular market, the FEBS Boutik sells men’s and women’s secondhand clothing and accessories (the model is drawn from the Housing Works Thrift Shops).

All profits go to FEBS, a groundbreaking AIDS organization founded by AIDS activist Esther Boucicault. FEBS is the only AIDS organization in Haiti that provides treatment as well as comprehensive supportive services to its clients.

After only two years, the FEBS Boutik achieved profitability in March 2010 and plans to greatly expand its inventory in Summer 2010. But the FEBS Boutik doesn’t just raise money for FEBS. The Boutik is staffed by FEBS clients. These positions are an invaluable source of both income and self-esteem for Haitians living with HIV/AIDS.
